In 1804, Thomas and Amos Evans operated a small shoe business in South Reading, which included a general store. Instead of having a shoe factory, they had a small shop where leather for their shoes was cut. The actual shoe making process was outsourced to the people of the town, while Thomas and Amos supplied them with uppers, soles, counters, and heels to assemble into shoes. All shoes were sewn by hand by the shoemaker-farmers whenever they had spare time.

Today, L.B. Evans is a division of Daniel Green Enterprises, committed to the quality and comfort guarantee established by the Evans brothers over 200 years ago.
